Greetings folks! Today we reach the end of the journey into the Romero "dead" franchise. None to soon I might add. George , George , George, George , GEORGE! Lets just call it done with this and be classy about it. If you want to view the Trailer, that can be done HERE. This movie was given three stars on Netflix and 5.1 Stars on IMDB.com. It was released two years after Diary of the Dead(2007). George seems to be pushing himself and the quality (or lack of it) is starting to show through.
This movie brings us not to when the outbreak originally occurs but some undisclosed period of time after. This movie stars our old pal Alan Van Sprang as Sergeant Nicotine Crockett. Although he is listed by a different charcters name in Diary of the Dead, it is the same character.
He has gone AWOL and is now leading a band of soldiers looking for a place to go where their is no "them". We see a replay of the scene in Diary where they stick up the kids in the RV and then cut to a quaint island off the coast. Everyone still speaks with a heavy Irish accent. The island is split into two factions. The Muldoons and O'Flynns. The Muldoons feel it it is better to kill the walking dead and the O'Flynns feel they can be rehabilitated to not to want us for food.(Sounds oddly familiar)
Basically the O'Flynns win the first interaction and banish the patriarch of the Muldoon clan to the mainland. Muldoon sets up a scheme to annoy the piss out of O'Flynn by sending strangers to the island. Unbeknownst to him, O'Flynn is killing them as they get their so the island doesn't become over populated.
The AWOL soldiers try to go to Muldoon for help only to realize it's a scam. A firefight ensues and all of Muldoon's men are munched on or blown to pieces. The soldiers eventually get their stolen money transfer truck on a ferry along with Muldoon himself.
Meanwhile, O'Flynn is caging and chaining up the undead in hopes that their will be a cure as all good christians believe the "lord will save them". Not this time douchebag. The whole movie centers around the central questions are they still our friends and family once they have joined the ranks of the undead?
Although the AWOL soldiers appear to play central roles, they die off early after reaching the island. This is a basic Hatfield and McCoy scenario with stand offs and shootings of each clan members to bring the whole thing to a head.
At the end, The Zombies get loose, Muldoon and O'flynn succeed in killing each other, and the island becomes overrun with Zombies. THE END! Possibly the worst in the Romero Series. Very little gore, CGI blood effects and to be truly honest poor acting. Time to go another route George. I truly wish I could give the Master and creator of the modern day Zombie more but,,,,
I have to give this 2 severed thumbs. And Remember
I watch this shit so you don't have to!
