One of the greatest arguments in Zombie history is , "Can Zombies run?".
This argument has been played out and played out more times than any other argument I can think of. So I thought I would argue this. Anyone who has seen Night of the Living Dead will notice that William Hinzman (the first zombie to be introduced) not only has the brain capacity to reach down and grab a huge fucking rock to break the window of the car that Barbara is in but we can clearly see him RUN after her car after she pulls the emergency break and the car starts to roll away from him.
So was this the fact that he had recently just passed away and still had the muscles to run? But this scene indicates to me that Zombies in the Romero story line are not mindless flesh eating ghouls. Alot of people say that Zack Snyder's version of Dawn of the Dead ruined the Romero uniqueness of the Zombie universe that Romero built.
I would argue that if we just stop and think for a sec. It would make sense that those who recently died would still have some retention and will over their muscles. This can be argued as we see in the Romero movies, Zombies reaching out to grab their prey. To move a muscle one must first envision (in a rudimentary way) that muscle being moved and then actuate the cluster of nerves and brain activity to move it. By the sheer fact that Zombies reach for their prey and even walk (or shuffle depending on the degradation of the muscles) indicates to me that they have some simulacra of brain functioning in other areas besides the basic need to eat.but as they begin to decay they loose more muscle mass, and control. Eventually falling into nothing more than a hump of flesh with a desire to feed.
Other than that what are some more Zombies issues?
Do Zombies prefer brains, entrails, skin or any living creature. This all depends on what Zombie universe you choose to engulf yourself in. Again I will refer back to the master of horror on this one and call any living tissue. Cooked even! Remember the scene where Tom and Judy get BarBQed? Also their is a scene in which a female Zombie eats a bug off of a tree. So I would argue any living organism is game for Zombie consumption. In fact one book that I read had zombies eating the grass and bark off of trees once all the human flesh has been eaten. Wasn't a bad series. I will do episode or blog spot on Zombie Books that I recommend for good light reading.
COMING SOON!!
WHAT ZOMBIE BLOG SITE CAN BE COMPLETE WITHOUT A COMPLETE RUNDOWN OF THE ROMERO SERIES? IN MY OPINION NONE! SO LOOK FORWARD TO A ROMERO SERIES.
