Greetings folks! Today's flick is one called Dance of the Dead/ This should not be confused with the Dance of the Dead that features the enigmatic Robert Englund on the cover. This movie got almost 4 stars on Netflix and 6 stars on IMDB.com. You can view the Trailer(s) HERE
As we start our journey into the movie we see tryouts for the bands for the Coosa High senior prom. It's quite obvious the band on stage doesn't work.
We are introduced to our main character. James Dunn played by Jared Kusnitz. Kyle (Justin Welborn) Jules, Steven and George. So now that we are introduced to our main characters we are introduced to characters who will play pivotal roles in the end. Three of the nerd squad have plans to try and commune with the dead only to have it go south and the slower one of the bunch get turned into zombie chow.
Jimmies date Linzie cancels out on him and decides to go with the pop collered douchebag instead , and Jimmy he is forced to deliver a last minute pizza order. Lucky for all of these people not going to prom. Lindsey winds up with douchebag Mitch at the cemetery to "unwind".
Robert is the first to get his brains torn from his skull. Mitch is dragged outta the car and we hear his death cry. It's kind of funny to see a severed head blinking at you from the driver side door. As the Nerd herd run for their lives Linzie attempts t get away as well. Throughout all of this the grounds keeper knows whats going on and tears zombies from limb to limb. Zombies literally come exploding from the grounds and hit the ground running. Its quite a visually stunning scene. They are picked up by Linzie and make a run for it.
In what makes for a funny scene is when the science instructure is attacked by dissected frogs. Jimmy who is still on delivery makes it to the house only to find that the family is Zombified. He jumps back into his pizza mobile and is immediately surrounded by the neighborhood Zombie patrol!.
The Band that initially was seen on stage is now in their garage toking up outta the devil bong. They are attacked by the undead only to realize that music does soothe the savage beast. The principle who is a raging alcoholic is attacked by the frog eaten Mr Hammond, you know the science teacher?
Jimmy finds Kyle and they have a heart to heart and while this is going on the Zombies actually jack Jimmies ride. As they are surrounded by the Zombie horde. They almost kill Qwen. And a brawl ensues with Jimmy, Kyle and Qwen getting the upper advantage.
Now Linzie and the nerd herd blow the engine in the car and are left to hoof it. only to run into the Zombies that jacked Jimmies ride. They run and break into a house and start boarding up the house.
Jimmie tries to make his way to Linzie through the Zombie infested Town. They decide it would be safer to make their way underground so they hit the sewers only to realize that the pipes under the whole town are from the nuclear power plant that is sitting by the town.
The pipes are leaking radioactive sludge into the sewers and ground water. Jimmy, Qwen and Kyle make it to the location where Linzie is holed up with the nerd herd. But WAIT! OH NO! It appears they have locked themselves in a funeral home.
Once they discover this, they make their way to the basement where another brawl ensues. And kyle is bitten. Uh oh! We know how this ends up! It's here that they realize that the whole towns population of teens are in the prom. A smorgasbord of fresh meat! Now they must make their way to the gym to try and rescue the remaining students.
On the way they run into the nutso gym teacher who is armed to the teeth and then some! They arm themselves with various sundries , grenades, and sharp objects. Along the way the pick up the stoner dudes.
Once they make their way to the gym they realize that they are to late and the only thing left is to take out as many as they can so the infection doesn't spread. There is one really disturbing scene that is best left for the viewer to see as I don't want to spoil it.
The acting was pretty good. Better than most zombie flicks, the gore was over the top and It did have a few moments of light hearted humor.
