Mutants 2009

Greetings ghoul and Zombie lovers. Well not Lovers that would be necrophillia which is illegal in most states. Anywho, this review will be of the 2009 "Mutants". This was rated three stars on Netflix and 5.6 on IMDB. The trailer can be viewed HERE.Ya know it is always troublesome when they have no picture of themselves on IMDB. Does know one want to be associated with this flick?

NOTE: This is a foreign subtitled flick

At first glimpse this seems to be good camera work.

This zombie virus has a 28 Days Later feel more so than a walking dead or uneartly feel to it. It starts in a rather graphic scene. Spoiler Alert * A girl gets liquified by an amulance. * We are met by three characters. A husband wife scientist/medic duo and a paramilitary female. Now would be a good time to remind that this movie is subtitled so if thats a killer for ya you will dislike this movie from the get go.

It seems as though the couple and the military have different plans which result in a shootout and the husband becoming infected by a stray bullet. Basically the whole film is shot as the wife tries to protect herself and her husband from himself as he mutates.

Add in a gang of rouge individuals and you have a smashing good time destroying raging lunatics. As the survivors are locked in what appears to be a hospital with one mutant, dozens more come rushing the place, they break in and all hell breaks loose. The survivors get separated. All the while Marco, the husband, is locked in the basement.

Marco escapes and the survivors are picked off one by one. Some quite deserving of their fate. This was not a bad movie but to see how it ends you'll have to watch the movie. I would suggest giving this a view for an interesting flick. A good one time watch.

I give this a solid four severed thumbs
And remember I watch this shit so you dont have to!

Edges of Darkness 2008

Greetings folks!

Todays zombie thriller is called Edges of Darkness. This movie rated 1.75 stars on netflix and 3 and 1/10 on IMDB. you can view the trailer HERE.

It starts out rather quickly as a family is attacked and torn asunder by the zombie horde.  one lone rescuer steps in clearing a path and rescues a son and mother combo. They are taken back to a remote and solitude apartment complex where each survivors has his or her own apartment. it turns out the kid is sick and needs his meds or he wont last long this forces the mother who has played total bitch up until now to eat humble pie and ask for help in getting across town to get his medicine. Now why not not just bring that shit along. I'm sure Max Brooks would agree that needed medications should be a priority on your things to take.

Not only are we having to deal with Zombie but vampires as well. Spoiler Alert * The black couple are vampires *.  WTF? why do we need vampires in a zombie flick. I mean seriously a good zombie flick is hard enough to put together without some random vampires thrown in the mix.

We have a black couple who keep to themselves, a white couple whos male ego is driven to be the hero, and a loner girl who kicks ass when the time is called for. it is this loner girl we see at the begining helping the ill fated family. Spoiler alert * It appears the mom has been bitten.

somehow and for some reason the computer has come alive and look for energy sources. what the hell for I have no idea. The black couple has kidnapped a young girl and is keeping her hostage. and now the male thinks they should find a male captive instead.

The loner girl goes out to find the medicine and instead gets taken hostage by a chain smoking priest.
as the loner girl remains captive we see that the asian guy dean is writing what is going on with her. this makes the viewer wonder what is real and what isnt. in fact he even starts to questions the reality of the situation himself.

our black stud leaves to find a mate for the female captive. during broad daylight I might add. yup its a stinker of a movie.  Dean and Dana are the "white couple". for some reason the plant is killing off lifeforms to run Deans computer. the priest is one of three looking for the antichrist. who supposedly has taken the shape of a boy. coincidence?

Stellie and talie seem to hit it off really well. in fact natalie willingly offers up herself to setellie. Dana is talking to a zombie she named morris. Dana Dreams of dancing the waltz with a couple rounds of zombies and comes to realize a moment of clarity.

Stellie is dying and natalie has some hidden tricks up her sleeves. all the while the compyter is still trying to find more sources of power. Dana being it's main target.

If this has peaked your curious minds please watch the rest of the movie to find out what happens to all of these characters.

I give this two out of 5 for gore factor, 2 out of 5 for acting
I give this movie 2 severed thumbs way , way up for this movie.

Undead or Alive : A Zombedy 2007

Undead or Alive: A Zombedy 2007

Greetings Zombie Fans! Today we turn our attention to Undead or Alive. It seems as if I've been in a slump finding real "zombie films" to showcase. This is not for lack of trying, more like lack of correct descriptives and labeling on Netflix.  This film stars Chris Kattan and James Denton. It rates 3.25 on Netflix and 5.1 on IMDB. you can view the trailer HERE .

This is exactly my point. I see Chris Kattan and I think Comedy. However, netflix ranks this as a action adventure, horror movie. So lets see which is correct. HELL even the title hints at a comedy. Damnit!

Set in the old west, we are treated to a comedic explanation of who Geronimo was and his final medicine known only as "the white man's curse". Personally, I find this to be fitting. After the chaos and destruction by the europeans during this time and epochs later. Maybe a white man's curse is still needed.

A zombie outbreak has just started to spread in a slapstick comedy manner. Starting with old ben who sucks the brains from his wife and kids then eats his own tongue. The sheriff (mr cocksure I'll call him) things that old Ben swinging and doing a gallows jig with remedy the situation. We shall see.

Jump scene to a stranger just coming in town and heading straight for the bar. Here he encounters Kattan's character . They cross words, then blows, then wind up in the cell next to ben. The two wind up breaking out and try to get Elmer's money back. they grab the dough and head off into the night. the sheriff comes to and grabs deputy "Fife" to hang old ben and then raise a posse. And it looks like the posse will have an easy job cause Elmer and Luke are shitty shots.

Jump scenes to the town waiting to see old ben swing and noone realizes that the plaque has already jumped to another victim. The sheriff. unbeknownst even to the sheriff and deputy fife who re really starting to look rough, our two heros have met up with a third person. A native american named Sue.

the sheriff and deputy Fife decide to make a meal of their posse. Meanwhile old ben gets cut down and starts to munch his way through town. The sheriff and his zombie posse closes in as Elmer, Luke and Sue set up an ambush. Now they realize something is amiss when the posse doesn't stay down. They hightale it outta there quick like. the only positive thing here is that the posse lost its horses. But now they are surrounded by towns of undead.

Turns out sue is the brightest one of the bunch as she went to NYU and accomplished a great deal. Now Elmer is captured by the same group that he desserted from.

In order to see how Luke, Elmer, and Sue get out of this one. You'll have to watch. It's quite surprising.

This movie has a funny moments. And its serious moments (few). The zombie gore is acceptable. And the love tones underneath could be done away with. This was not a bad movie. The fact that the zombies retain intelligence adds to the humour. being a typical zombie flick we cant get attached to one character.

I give this four severed thumbs for the decent movie and decent acting, story line, and execution of all things zombie. remember, I watch this shit so you dont have to.!

Blood Creek 2009

Blood Creek 2009
Greetings zombiephiles!. today's movie is called Blood Creek. This earned 5.5 on IMDB and 3.5 stars on Netflix. But how does this fare against a lover of true zombie flicks. This was directed by Joel Schumacher so it has potential.  See thats one problem I have against other rating systems. They may be rating and looking at two or more movies from different genres. I however rate and review pure zombie flicks. so its comparing apples to apples not apples to oranges. You can view the trailer for Blood Creek HERE. We can blame once again Lionsgate films if this is a stinker.

The movie starts out with a monologue explaining the fact that Nazi germany once believed that the occult was one way in which to achieve world domination. So they set out looking for rune stones.

Moving on from this monologue we see a family who is of short means on their farm . They receive a letter from what is possibly the third reich asking them to host a scientist while he is in the US doing research.  it should be noted that one factor they are considering is a monthly stipend of 150 dollars. This is important as the movie is placed in 1939. Therefore this sum of money is not small.

once Mr. Wirth (prnounced Virth) arrives he makes mention of a stone that was uncovered during the building of the house. This takes the other men of the house aback as Mr. Wirth is supposedly a historian.
The stone is massive and carried the nazi swastika. We are witnessed to the power of the massive stone as it brings the bird back to life.

Jump to modern day. Chaos rules the screen as this woman has obviously shot her bf/husband and has the gun pointed at her own head. The scene ends with the trailer exploding from the meth fumes. one of the emts on scene appears to be a main character and has to take care of a mean old man who appears to be on his last legs. In other words he has one foot in the grave. As mean as this bastard is you can see that the younger man will be happy when he goes.

In a twist to the movie the EMTS brother Victor, makes it home from Iraq but mysteriously disappears. From the pictures in the newspaper clippings and military shots it is none other than the joker who plays in prison break. You know, Dominic Purcell the older brother who is on death row. Not the one with all the cool tattoos.

In the middle of the night victor shows up and tells him to grab two guns, a boat and plenty of ammo. from the scarring and marks on his body it is clear he has been held captive for 3 years now. Before seting off he tells his brother it is all in or nothing and he is free to leave if he so choooses. Henry portrayed by

Henry Cavill

chooses all in. And they set off.

They make it to the old farm house and it appears they are there to kill everyone. They split up one takes the front the other the back. As we get a chance to see the family it appears as if none of the members have aged. such as the little girl. But all others stayed the same. it is obvious that vic is looking for someone. Or something. there is a black container that appears the center of it all. all around is strange paintings marking up the house and surrounding property. if all sounds confusing it is because it is.

After setting up an ambush on the rest of the family, the person he is looking for has been released and all hell breaks loose. It appears Wirth was there in reality to perform black magic and blood rituals. He is a necromancer. (someone who controls the dead) To find out how this movie ends, I suggest you watch it.

The acting isn't bad, its better quality acting than most zombie movies. This one is labeled zombie flick yet it only possesses one person who could be characterized as a zombie. Disappointment abounds as we would expect more zombies in a zombie movie.

So the question arises if he can make it to where the family doesnt age, why cant he do the same for himself. watch and youll understand.

I would give this two and half severed thumbs.
And remember I watch this shit so you dont have to!

The Walking Dead Graphic Novel

The Walking Dead is the longest running comic book/graphic novel dealing with zombies of the ghoulish nature to date. written by Robert Kirkland this series looks at the world through a postapocolyptic zombie holocaust.

The writing is not funny. It is thought provoking, poignant, and at times leaves the reader feeling a little guilty and uneasy. The story centers around a former sherrifs officer Rick Grimes and his family. Throughout the series we introduced to a wide variety of characters such as Glenn, Laurie, Michonne, Frank, Shane, and a whole slew of others.

This story brings up the question who is the real walking dead. As rick points out it is the human's as we have forgotten how to live in a world of rules and are simply waiting to die. This line speaks volumes to the story telling by Kirkland. This was Kirklands first attempt at a serious horror piece and personally I think he does justice to way society shifts and mores (pronounced MORE ASE) change to match the situation we are confronted with.

In the first graphic novel we find rick awakening from a coma that was induced due to a gunshot wound before the world went all to hell. He awakens in the hospital to find doors locked, corpses lying as if fed on, and the world around him changed. to shorten things up he makes his way home and meets his"new Neighbors" who were looking for a spot to hold up in. This is where we are introduced to Morgan and his son. They help rick and in return rick gives them ammo and supplies from the station house which oddly enough is stock full of gear.

In an act of humanity we see rick follow a zombie and place it out of its misery. This is one of the few moments we see true humanitarian effort on the part of the survivors. as rick heads for atlanta, GE he finds a world falling into ruin and decay. once arriving in atlanta he realizes that the stories of safe zones are bullshit and is basically given up for dead if it wasnt for Glenn. Glenn becomes a very important character in this graphic novel series.

But I caution the reader of this. Never get to emotionally attached to one character. Kirkland has a way of making the characters lovable and enduring and in one fatal swoop, he will steal that character never to be seen or heard from again. This is one of the more realistic aspects of the series. lets face it, in reality, we never know who the next one to go will be.

If you are one of the few people who have not had the pleasure in reading the series I highly suggest you make time. however, if you are one of those people who only saw the AMT viewing of it dont be surprised that the story doesnt follow the same paths. overall it does, but it takes a few turns on the way their.

I give it 5 severed thumbs!

The Zombie Farm 2009

Greetings folks I'm back and running with the thanx to my wifes computer. Love ya baby! Todays flick is called "the Zombie Farm".  this rates 4.9 on IMDB and 2 stars on netflix. In for a treat ya'll.This one stars Adriana Catano and Rosa Isela. It was directed (loosely) by Ricardo Islas. you can view the trailer HERE

Without having seen any of this movie I will make a guess that we are dealing with a combination of voodoo Zombie and ghoulish ones.

lets start with some crappy driving to some soothing background score. It appears as though the guy is drunk and his "wife g/f" is scared as shit. A fight ensues and she gets a belt across her pretty face. Come to find out we are watching a commercial being pitched by out leading lady who abruptly gets shot down. And told that she needs content with a "latino flavor" then mentions salsa!

So she decided to see a psychic. This guy shows he is not a real mentalist. The woman that we see getting beaten in the beginning shows up begging for help. this crushes the metalists spirit and he exposes himself (not like that you pervs!). Meanwhile asshole husband shows up, beats up the mentalists, and runs out with the girl.

The movie making leading lady and the non-mentalist mentalist meet for drinks in hopes that she can try to make a documentary on him. they exchange monologues in a tired sketched out way and decide to go for it. just let me point out that the mentalist (name unknown at this point) actually does some pretty good screen work. Or does he have some ability? That is left up to us to decide at this point.

The young lady who's husband drug her out of the house seeks other voodoo ways of getting at her husband. All the while mentalist dude prooves he is much more. He is smart as shit. Actually good writing in this one.  Good dynamic between these two. So now the deal is off .

Heres where the twist comes in. The chick who goes to the voodoo queen to get a potion to make her husband stop hurting her actually winds up killing him by mistake (or so she thinks). She now runs back to the mentalist to let him know that her dead husband will not leave her alone. Yup classic voodoo zombie.

I have to take this moment and say that im pleased to see a return to voodoo style zombie. Interesting! although a voodoo style zombie he is in fact a ghoulish zombie with what appears to be ghoulish appetites. Oh and one surprise spoiler I will save for the viewer.

At this point it is all down hill for the unlikely pair of battered wife and braniac mentalist. ok the mentalist has a name, Roque. Now this movie has turned into a mystery. one which I think the viewer will be interested in seeing how this one plays out. A combo voodoo/ghoul is original yet something is lacking.

The santriana that the battered woman goes to is trying to finish off loose ends by killing off the survivors. Roque discovers the cure is forcing the victim who ingested the poison to vomit an hour after ingestion. of course this is to late for dear hubby plus other circumstances.

They discover what the santriana is really up to with all her voodoo. I know but I will leave the reader to view this ad discover it for themselves. '

All in all it wasn't a bad movie. Some poor acting on some peoples parts but other than that not bad. the story took a bit to develop. but once it does it picks up it seems to move pretty quickly.

I think you will enjoy this for a one time watch. It is not unwatchable.

I would give this movie 3 and 1/2 severed thumbs.
And remember, I watch this so you dont have to!

Zombie High 1987

Greetings all! It has been a while since I have posted and for this I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Today's Zombie Flick is called Zombie High. It stars Virginia Madsen. This film ranks 3.4 stars on IMDB and 2.5 on Netflix.

This flick starts out with an 80's soundtrack as we are introduced to a prep school. oh my god the flash back to popped collars and leathermans jackets,  and shoulder pads. As our main characters are introduced. We get a whole mixture. the preppy jock, the beautiful brain, the leather clad bad boy who's last hope is the prep school and the nerdy creeps. Nicely rounded out.

Enter creeping guys rolling a gurney into a building with a female scream. Something is obviously up with the mash potatoes. watch and you'll understand. It appears the main character has the hots for her new professor. This appears to me that this will be more of a zombie movie as in zombie in the brain dead controlling characters. Not the ghoulish flesh eating zombies. I could be proven wrong.

Teaser time, it appears as though the bf has discovered a dark sinister past about the headmaster. Or originator of the school. The girls have all seemed to abandon the head chick. The rogue goth guy seems well aware of what is going on. The teacher is giving into his call of lust for the brain. Invites her over and makes some pretty impressive moves on her. But she resists due to her bf back home.

The rogue guy leaves out late at night determined to leave but we are lead down an ominous hallway which is occupied by the zoned out preppy guys. They inform him tonight is his night. What this means only time will tell. It is obvious that one by one the freshmen are being turned into some form of zombies.

Once again, the teacher starts to hit on his student. This time with a more sinister overtone. The music that is playing during this scene leads to a confrontation between the BF and the teacher which is diffused when he is called away by the dean. Barry the BF acts like a douchebag. and leaves in a huff. we find out that the teacher has performed countless "operations". The reference to "serum dosages" leads to us believing that they are in some state of regenerative form.

This leads us to believe that possibly the clock, the "colonel" and the history of the founder scalping Native Americans is all connected. the brains best friend Emerson is supposedly in the infirmary. ooooppps HES DEAD!  obviously he could not take the procedure due to his hemophillia. This leaves the brain alone in the infirmary with the corpse of her best friend.

She finds her way to the basement and hopefully out of the building. nope only to wind up in some old basement  filled with wines and various other sundries including a picture of the headmaster as a union soldier. furthering the regenerative theory. Our main brain finds her way out.

Our rogue guy seems to have taken on a new personality. Willingly answering questions and acting cryptic. our brain heroine takes the initiative and confronts the professor who decides to spill the beans to her. why? Who fucking knows. WOW! Talk about sudden jump in scenes. Once to the dance and back to the explanation. the dance scene is almost painful to watch. The students are all in sync with a one step that has no soul or life.

Again with the scene jump! a quick nod to Sam Raimi's Evil Dead when the professor tells our brain to "join us".  28 more minutes I can do this! Our brain and jock set off the alarms and Barry the BF is left to deal with a school of zombified brains. Some how our brain leading lady has mysteriously learned to hot-wire a car. and the bike riding bf is knocked off his bike and gets hauled off.

Our leading lady makes it to the cops, who of course don't believe them. Jump scene to all the guys shooting the serum like heroine. then back to the cops again. to much jumping makes for a very uncomfortable viewing experience. But at least now we know the cops are in on it as they graduated from the school. this leads to a jump scene the next day where she is trying to outrun the cops through what looks like Dukes of Hazard style roads. She eventually crashes and is taken back to the school.

The teacher tries to smuggle her out and makes her meet him the next day. She is instructed to act like everyone else. The dean has decided to fire the good Dr. . The next day she meets the dr who is willing to destroy all that he has helped to build. We finally see the effects of lack of serum on the living corpses.

At this point I will stop and force the reader to watch this flick in order to see the ending.

Acting wasnt half bad, story was lacking and developed really slow. the soundtrack alone deserves an honarable mention for the flashbacks alone!

I Give this movie 3 severed thumbs. And remember,
I watch this shit so you don't have to.
